Thank you for making the SLO Marathon + Half your Spring destination! We have four incredible races to choose from—Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K and Kids Races—along with a finish line party highlighting the best of the Central Coast to celebrate each and every one of you.
We're also proud to provide great on-course support and safety for everyone's enjoyment and wellbeing. You will enjoy—Aid Stations every 2-3 miles that include water, sports drink, race fuel foods and medical supplies; on-call medical care; clean sanitary stations at Start, On-course and at Finish Line; Police, Sheriff, Highway Patrol and Course Marshals; 800 enthusiastic volunteers cheering your every step!
New, Faster Course in 2017! The new, beautiful loop course for 2017 is a fast and scenic tour of San Luis Obispo starting and finishing near the Madonna Inn. Runners will enjoy by heading out toward the beautiful Irish Hills Natural Preserve and then loop toward historic downtown San Luis Obispo. You'll enjoy the Fremont Theatre, Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed building. Runners will also experience the Railroad District, Islay's Streets charming bungalows and Victorians and, finally, a scenic downhill finish line at the Madonna Inn where the SLO Life Expo will be in full swing to celebrate your finish! Expect ideal running weather with coastal fog and an average starting temperature of 54 degrees. High temperatures usually hover between 66-69 degrees.

Pace GroupsPace groups will be available for Marathon and Half Marathon registrants. Pace Group Leaders are all volunteers who are highly experienced runners from all over the state. Many of them are extremely familiar with the course and have paced the SLO Marathon and Half marathon in previous years.
The pace groups will be separated by 15-minute finish goals. The leaders will do their best to stay on target. However, if finishing in an exact time is critical to you then we suggest you manage your own pace and race solo. Each Pace Group will be lead by two Leaders. These volunteer leaders will be holding up signs at the race start with their goal time on it, near the same time corrals and will meet you there.
If you are interested in pacing for the marathon or half marathon, please contact Nicole Hagobian at firstname.lastname@example.org. Priority will be given to returning pacers. In your email you must include the following:
- 1. Three pace groups (Specify full or half) that you are capable of and willing to pace
- 2. Your half and full PR's within the last 2 years
- 3. Your pacing experience within the last 2 years
- 4. Your unisex t-shirt size
- 5. Your cell phone number
Full marathon pace groups starting line up 5:15am (look for hand held signs)
In order to qualify as an Official Finisher, you must finish within the 7-hour course limit. Runners/Walkers must maintain a 16:00 minute per mile pace as the course will be closed on a mile-by-mile rolling basis. If you are unable to run/walk within the allotted time, you will either be picked up and driven to the finish area or asked to move onto the sidewalk. Once you are on the sidewalk, you must follow all traffic laws deemed by the City and County of San Luis Obispo. The course will be re-opened to traffic and aid stations may be closed. Sag Wagons will be provided should you be unable to complete the race. Minimum age to compete in the Marathon is 15 years of age.
