5K Participants will get to “Chase The Pig” for Awards and BBQ

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Mo’s Smokehouse BBQ, one of the most popular and long-standing restaurants in San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach and Chico, CA, has signed on as the Presenting Sponsor of the SLO Marathon 5K race. The new “Chase the Pig 5K” presented by Mo’s Smokehouse BBQ will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014 during the San Luis Obispo Marathon + Half Marathon weekend. Race organizers expect more than 1000 participants for the 2014 race.

"We are in hog heaven having Mo’s Smokehouse BBQ as the sponsor of our 5K race," says Heather Hellman, SLO Marathon Event Director. “Their BBQ is award-winning and the best tasting in town. Everything on the menu is top-notch, as is their commitment to our community. We are so excited to have them as partners.”


The 5K race at the SLO Marathon is a very popular race with locals and as a warm-up for marathon and half marathon participants prior to their race the following day. The “Chase the Pig 5K” will be held on the Madonna Inn property, with a scenic 2-loop course past corrals, horses, Madonna Morro, the SLO Life Expo grounds and the Inn.,

Anyone who finishes before the pig (a costumed runner) will get a “I Chased the Pig and Won!” certificate and be entered in a drawing for dinner for four and a gift pack of Mo’s BBQ sauce.

Mo’s Smokehouse BBQ will also be serving up some signature dishes on-site at the SLO Life Expo. Athletes and spectators can grab some BBQ, salads and signature side dishes during the weekend to eat at the Expo food court or inside the beer and wine garden.

“All of us at MO's Smokehouse BBQ are so excited to be teaming up with the SLO Marathon 2014!!” said Nancy Snyder. “When you have this great event right in your own backyard, it seems like the perfect fit for us to support not only our local community, but all of the athlete's participating.
